"I’m sorry to bother you on such
a fine day, but I want to ask if you
possibly have a pen on you?“

It’s not one of the weirdest things he’s
asked, there have been stranger in more
serious situations, but it was a part of a
trick he was planning to do. If he couldn’t
grab a corner to perform on, he figured he
was going to pick people out by random.

He’s staring at the tattoos on the other’s
neck and his knuckles, he knows it.  It’s
not exactly something that he can help –
Taylor’s interested in the patterns and how
he could mimic it for himself. Not exactly
in the same sort of fashion with the skulls,
but the tribal one is worth it. A few moments
of focusing the ink into patterns on his body,
his left arm held a design of a flaming ace
of spades and his back held fallen, bloody
wings.  The card’s usual for him, but the
wings are just because he felt like it.

                          “I like your tattoos.”

There couldn’t have been anything better to
             say?

He’d planned on correcting the other male.
on explaining what good music was, not
that TJ was actually limited, everything was
great. Except meatloaf, so now he was judging
Taylor, whether he actually deserved it or not.
Thomas’ glare hardens as he stares down the
younger male with a disapproving glare.

“You take that back, right now.”

image

Maybe it was just him wanting to be a little
shit at seeing the other’s opposition to his
taste in music, maybe he was actually defending
himself. Whatever it was, a grin crept to Taylor’s
lips and he chuckled, shaking his head as he
was told to take it back.  That – that – was
                    not happening.

                                    “Uhm – yeah, lemme think.
                                    Nope. Not gonna happen.”

Patience wasn’t a virtue he possessed a lot of. He had very little of it,
actually, especially in situations like this. Good things might’ve came to
those who waited, but that was yet something he had to learn. Wait he
did though, watched as the card was held up and shown off. A single
card, it was nothing special.

He didn’t blink, either, not after the warning that that was all the time it
could take for things to change. That one was one he almost expected
however, a classic trick he’d seen performed many a time. It was, admittedly
however, strange to see it done with just a single card and no deck in sight
or visibly put away in a pocket, again leaving no room for the methods he
was used to. This guy must’ve been extremely good at what he did to do
so with such ease, no doubt put hours of practice into even a simpler trick
such as the one he’d just shown.

Adrian was almost jealous of it. Almost, but his mouth remained shut as
he waited— patiently— for the next one. Time could be spent later on trying
to figure out what the other had up his sleeves.

Without his power, Taylor wasn’t be very impressive at all. He didn’t
have any card tricks outside of using his ability, was shaky with the sleight
of hand, and couldn’t pick a pocket without feeling guilty afterwards. If not
for his tricks and the money that it could bring in, he would have been on
the street a long while ago instead of moving from town to town, motel to
motel. Times like this, however, where he could remind himself what he
was blessed to have, helped him through those moments and to swallow
the life he was living.

The man was watching him so attentively, as if he would miss something
if he looked away, and he was glad that he really enjoyed the first trick that
he showed.  It was small, but it caught the other’s attention and he couldn’t
help but want to show off a bit more.  Impress the man further than he had
already.  With flick of the fingers, he crumpled the card into the palm of his
hand, morphing and shifting the form to take the design of an intricately
made paper rose made from the same playing card.  When he opened his
hand after ‘crumpling’ it, the rose sat in the middle of his palm, Taylor blowing
a breath of air along the top and shifting the card to move like petals from
a flower being brushed by a breeze.

A low groan sounds from him and grows in volume.
Clearly, he hadn’t approved of the answer he’d been
given. That would never work, not by his standards.
Meatloaf, what a horrible answer, was he even serious?

                                  “——-I hate you.”

image

From what he could tell, his answer was not the one
that TJ was looking for.  He could have said worse
just to annoy the other, but hearing that the other
didn’t agree had him pressing his lips together and
           almost pouting slightly.

                              “Because my taste in music
                              is far superior than yours?”

[ TJ ]

                     “Taylor——“

image

He begins, his voice sharp and precise in his attempt
to get the younger male’s attention. Once he’s sure he
has it, he begins once again.

“What’s your idea of good music?”

image

The way TJ spoke made it seem like he had done something
wrong, Taylor looking to him and pausing in wait of what was
to come. But then he was just asked about his taste in music,
and having to think about it for a moment, he opening his mouth,
closing it afterwards before opening again to answer.

                                   "Meatloaf.

“Aw, thanks! I don’t think anyone’s actually said that before.” She said, letting go of his hand and letting it fall back to her side. She didn’t really think of herself as conceited or vain or whatever word you wanted to use, but it did feel nice to get a compliment.

image

“It’s unique and beautiful, and I just felt that you should know.”  If he could make someone smile or make their day, then Taylor would think it to be a successful one for him.  It was never for anything, just to make a bright moment in someone else’s day.

He could comprehend the sensation,
hating being in front of that many
people at once. Especially if one was
performing. He wasn’t a performer, he
was hardly a public figure, so.

                  “It is, I would stay
away from it if I were
                   you, y’know. It’s not all
                   it’s cracked up to be.

image

I’m sure you’ll come up with
                                      something else that makes me
                                      question your sanity, Taylor.”

Glad that the other understood or had
enough sense to back off with that subject,
not that Taylor should have gone too
serious with it, he nodded his head a
bit to what TJ said and smiled a bit.

image

“Oh, I have no doubt about that.
I don’t exactly play with a full deck
of cards on a regular basis, if you
                  know what I mean.”

His shot was downed, now empty glass pushed aside so every
ounce of his attention could be paid to his company and his tricks.
They were too fascinating to look past, something that he couldn’t
figure out for the life of him when he wasn’t even that drunk. It wasn’t
sleight of hand or misdirection or anything he knew— and he just
couldn’t wrap his head around it. Granted that that was the point
of tricks, they were more entertaining when methods were unknown,
but it was just in his nature to want to know.

           "Show me some.“

Even though that was probably the plan. Sometimes Adrian was nothing
more than a demanding, impatient child and right about now was one of
those times. As if it wasn’t obvious enough.

image

He was planning to show the other some of his tricks, but the
man seemed so eager more eager than before, and he couldn’t
help but comply. It would only take a moment for him to think of
a couple of things for him to do, pull a few things out of thin air
so that he could keep the wonder. In the time, he held up the
card in between his fingers, turning it around to show that there
was only a single card there.

"Alright, just have a bit of patience
                  and watch –
Some of my tricks can change in the
                  blink of an eye.”

The card held up was faced back to the other, showing the four
of diamonds so clearly printed on the front.  His other hand moved
up to grab at the top, pulling it back before letting it flick back forward.
In that split second that he flicked the card, the ink of the four bled
into his fingers and disappeared, a nine of clubs filling in and replacing
it.  It had gone so quickly and been timed well enough that if the
other had blinked, he would have missed it. The trick was one of his
more simple ones, but it was enough to just start out with.

He was almost like a child in the way he was perched
forward, eyes curious and watching every little move the
other made. Sleight of hand was something he knew,
something he’d see from a mile away and this wasn’t that.
The fact he hadn’t the slightest idea what the other was
doing only furthered his curiosity, the intrigue clear in his
face as he watched what unfolded.

The other was entirely right— it wasn’t like anything he’d
ever seen, or done himself, before. That was new and
interesting and he very much wanted to understand how
the hell he’d done it.

           "That’s pretty neat.“

image

Taylor was still sober enough to do this, only on
the beer and whatever was to be coming his way,
so it was best to get what he wanted to do out before
he screwed it up.  The way that the other looked to
the deck simply appearing made the grin on his lips
broaden, nodding his head and letting out a small
laugh as it was called neat.  Neat was on way to
describe it, interesting, fascinating, unbelievable
being a few others he had heard.  If they knew the
secret behind it, though, he could only imagine what
they might say then.

                          Freak, for example.

But he didn’t let his mind wander to it, reaching with
his other hand to pull a card from the deck, skin merging
and shifting to make it seem and sound like he had done
so to a true deck.  The card he ‘pulled’ was a four of
diamonds, held out to show the other as the hand holding
the deck turned over and pressed down to the bar. The
deck melded back into his hand and was gone as soon
as it was there, leaving the one card being held in between
his fingers.

"I’m glad you like it so far. Most of
my tricks only deal with one card from
               the deck, though.”
